Shrink Wrapping Machine

What is a shrink-wrapping machine?

A shrink-wrapping machine is a machine that is used for packing products by enclosing them in shrink-wrap film. Shrink wrap is a thin plastic film heated to shrink tightly around the product, providing a secure and tamper-evident seal.

Shrink-wrapping machines help shrink the goods to avoid space and weight constraints during logistics.

Durapak is one of the leading shrink wrapping machine suppliers and has been a forerunner in shrink-wrapping machines in India for the last two decades. The machines include Semi Auto–Sleeve Wrapper, Mono–Sleeve Wrapper, L sealer and Tunnel, and Chamber Type.

Shrink wrapping machines come in various sizes and types to suit different packaging needs.

  • L-bar sealers: These machines seal one or more products in a single layer of shrink-wrap film. The film is sealed along the edges, and heat is applied to shrink the film around the product.
  • Tunnel shrink-wrap machines: These machines seal and shrink-wrap multiple products at once. The products are placed on a conveyor belt and are passed through a tunnel where heat is applied to shrink the film around the products.
  • Automatic shrink-wrap machines: These machines automatically wrap and seal products in shrink-wrap film. They are typically used for high-volume packaging operations and can handle various product sizes and shapes.

Buyer's guide

How a shrink wrapping machine works

A shrink wrapping machine wraps a product in heat-shrinkable film, seals the film around it and then applies heat. The heat makes the film contract tightly to the shape of the product, giving a clear, tamper-evident and dust-proof pack.

Most systems work in two steps: a sealer (an L-bar, side sealer or sleeve wrapper) encloses the product in film, and a heat tunnel or chamber shrinks it. Compact chamber machines do both in one unit.

Types of shrink wrapping machines

Chamber machines

Sealing and shrinking happen in a single hood. Compact and simple to run, they suit small to moderate volumes.

L-sealers with tunnel

An L-shaped seal bar closes the film on two sides and a tunnel shrinks it. Available as semi-automatic and fully automatic lines.

Side sealers

A continuous side seal allows products of any length and higher speeds on automatic lines.

Sleeve wrappers

Film is wrapped around grouped products such as bottles or cans to make a multipack, usually with polyethylene film.

Wrap-around shrink wrappers

Automatic machines that collate products and wrap them in film for bundled packs.

How to choose a shrink wrapping machine

  • Packs per minute. Chamber machines and semi-automatic L-sealers suit lower volumes; side sealers and automatic sleeve wrappers suit continuous lines.
  • Product size and shape. The seal bar, sealing area and tunnel opening must suit your largest product.
  • Film type. Polyolefin film gives a clear retail finish; polyethylene film is used for heavier multipacks.
  • Single items or multipacks. Retail single-item packs suit L-sealers; grouped bottles and cans suit sleeve wrappers.
  • Hygiene. Food and pharmaceutical lines benefit from washable, stainless-steel contact parts.

Shrink wrapping machines run on polyolefin shrink film for clear retail packs, or polyethylene film for heavier multipacks. Durapak supplies shrink film to suit each machine. See Polyolefin Shrink Film or all consumables.

FAQ

Shrink Wrapping Machine questions.

How do you shrink-wrap at home?

Products should be placed into shrink-wrap bags before the open end of the plastic is sealed. Once the bag is closed, warm it with the heat gun to make it shrink and fit the products inside.

How do you shrink-wrap without a machine?

You can use a heat gun to shrink the items without a machine. A heat gun looks like a hairdryer, but it heats the film more uniformly. Make passes over the sealed bag from a distance of several inches. The film will immediately respond to heat by rapidly shrinking to the precise size of the encapsulated object.

What material is used to shrink-wrap?

Polyolefin is the shrink wrap most frequently used in shrink-wrapping machines. There are numerous thicknesses, clarities, strengths, and shrink ratios available. PVC, Polyethylene, Polypropylene, and several other materials are used to make other shrink films. A leading Automatic shrink-wrapping machine manufacturer in India, Durapak provides a specific type of shrink-wrapping film called the DuraShrink.

What is the best shrink wrap?

Polyolefin shrink film is a premium choice because of its superior toughness and adaptability. It is a polymer that the FDA has designated as food-safe and it has replaced PVC in numerous applications. DuraShrink is a Polyolefin shrink film by Durapak, a leading Mobile shrink-wrapping machine manufacturer in India.

What is the strongest shrink wrap?

A premium option due to its better toughness and versatility is polyolefin shrink film, is a polymer that the FDA has deemed safe for use in food applications, and it has taken the place of PVC in many applications. DuraShrink is a Polyolefin shrink film made by Durapak, one of the top manufacturers of mobile shrink-wrapping equipment in India.

What is a shrink wrapping machine used for?

It encloses products in heat-shrinkable film and shrinks the film tightly around them, for tamper-evident retail packs, multipacks of bottles and cans, and dust-proof protection.

What is the difference between an L-sealer and a side sealer?

An L-sealer closes the film with an L-shaped bar, which suits a defined range of product sizes. A side sealer seals continuously along one side, so it handles long products and higher speeds.

Which film is used in shrink wrapping machines?

Polyolefin (POF) film is the usual choice for clear retail packs. Polyethylene (PE) film is used for heavier sleeve-wrapped multipacks.

Can one machine handle different product sizes?

Yes, within its sealing area. Semi-automatic L-sealers and chamber machines are easy to change over between products.

Do you supply machines for food packaging?

Yes. Machines with washable stainless-steel parts are available for food and pharmaceutical lines.
