Buyer's guide

How a strapping tool works

A strapping tool is a hand-held machine that tensions plastic strap around a load, welds the ends together and cuts the strap. Because it is portable, it can be taken to the load, which makes it ideal for large, heavy or irregular goods and for sites that do not need a fixed strapping machine.

Battery tools use friction welding and need no air supply; pneumatic tools run on compressed air for continuous heavy use. A strap dispenser holds the coil and feeds the strap without tangling.

Types of strapping tools

Battery-powered tools

Cordless tools that tension, weld and cut in one action. Easy to move between loads.

Pneumatic tools

Air-driven tools for heavy-duty, continuous strapping where compressed air is available.

Strap dispensers

Mobile coil holders that keep the strap clean and tangle-free while it is pulled out.

How to choose a strapping tool

  • Strap material and width. Each tool is made for a range of PP or PET strap widths and thicknesses.
  • Tension needed. Heavy loads need higher tension, usually with PET strap.
  • Power source. Battery for mobility; pneumatic where compressed air is already on site.
  • Daily volume. Heavier use calls for a more robust tool and a spare battery.

Strapping tools run on PET or PP strap. Durapak supplies strap rolls matched to your tool. See PET Strap Roll or all consumables.
